Dear all,
The supply chain disruptions hampering the fledgling economic recovery continue to make headlines, in Europe and around the world. To be sure, Europe's technology industries have been impacted too. But our members were quick to adapt their supply chains after government interventions to fight the Covid pandemic slowed many parts of the global economy to a crawl. The main obstacles we now face to a faster and broader recovery are the continuing bottlenecks in certain supply chains, such as microchips, steel and aluminium, as well as in transport and logistics.
The present situation, and how to improve it, was the main focus at our Presidents' Board meeting this week. It is clear that our companies feel strongly that open, rules-based free trade remains central to their success. And this was also my main message at the inaugural EU-US Trade & Technology Council. I was very pleased to take part there on behalf of Orgalim, to share our priorities for the TTC and to reinforce Orgalim’s recommendations on priorities for future EU-US trade relations.
At the same time, we continue to work on the many draft laws making their way through the legislative process, that will have a massive impact on our industries’ competitiveness and ability to contribute to Europe’s digital and climate transition. To name a few, we published our recommendations on sustainable finance and on the proposed new Machinery Regulation, which we believe require significant changes to deliver on the stated policy objectives. We are also proud to partner once again with EU Sustainable Energy Week, taking place later this month on the theme of ‘Towards 2030: Reshaping the European Energy System’. As Digital Ambassador, our President Rada Rodriguez will join the main conference programme on 25 October. Registration is open and we hope to see you there.
Take care,
