Dear all,
As we approach the end of the year - and, indeed, the decade - there is a sense of transition in the air. Because every end also marks a new beginning. As the Juncker Commission prepares to bow out, the EU is on the brink of launching into a new legislative period with President-Elect von der Leyen’s team set to take office in December. And with urgent priorities like a Green Deal and making Europe fit for the digital age on the agenda, their work cannot start too soon.
The question of renewal in a time of change was also a central focus of our event ‘Reinventing Europe’s industrial leadership’ last week. Throughout the on-stage discussions, speakers from industry and policy often zoomed in on how technology innovation can reinvigorate Europe’s competitiveness and deliver fresh answers to society’s biggest challenges. Plus we looked at how rethinking the role of industry in Europe’s future can help policymakers deliver on objectives like addressing climate change, improving quality of life and reclaiming the EU’s leadership on the global stage. Scroll down for the full story, including an interview with the inspiring winners of the CTO of the Year Europe award which rounded out the event.
Last week marked a significant transition within Orgalim too, as we said goodbye to Tomas Hedenborg following a successful four-year term as Orgalim President. And we opened a new chapter with the General Assembly approving the appointment of our new President: Rada Rodriguez, Member of the Management Board at Schneider Electric GmbH. We are very fortunate to have someone of Ms Rodriguez’s calibre and experience to help drive forward our political engagement at this critical moment. I look forward to working closely with our new President, our Members and our wider network as we enter this new phase for Europe - and am confident that 65 years since our founding, Orgalim is ready as ever to play our part in shaping a renewed Europe over the coming decade and beyond.
Best regards,
