Dear all,
After an extraordinarily busy summer, we at Orgalim are back energised, ready and fully focused on what is going to be a critical period ahead. As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in her State of the European Union (SOTEU) address, Europe can lead the way out of this crisis towards a new vitality. The vision she set out of "a world where we use digital technologies to build a healthier, greener society" is one that Orgalim fully supports and that Europe’s technology industries have a vital role to play in.
So now attention shifts to turning vision into reality. This is home turf for Orgalim: our industries deal every day in making the green and digital transformation real. Our president, Rada Rodriguez, took part in a high-level workshop organised by the German EU Presidency to address issues with the European standardisation system that are preventing the smooth functioning of the Single Market. I was happy to do the same at the Single Market Roundtable of the European Policy Centre, and to share our priorities for the recovery with MEPs at the last European Forum for Manufacturing. In a letter to President von der Leyen, Orgalim together with 40 industry associations raised serious concerns regarding the workability, proportionality and value of the current database for substances of concern in products (SCIP), which need to be urgently addressed to deliver the EU ambition for a circular economy. And we suggested ways forward for tackling the challenge of carbon leakage with the proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This is to name but a few – have a look below for a roundup of other policy work during these last few weeks.
The next few months can be truly transformative, as Member States submit their recovery plans and start to unlock funds from the unprecedented Recovery & Resilience Facility. Decisions are going to come thick and fast and now is the time to get them right. Our calendar of events continues to grow to provide a platform to drive discussion and engagement on the vital priorities for our industries. I hope to see many of you joining the conversation, and look forward to continuing our work together on Europe’s path to become green, digital and more resilient.
Stay well, stay safe,
