At this critical moment for the future of Europe, industry is back in the political limelight. Technological transformation, increasingly fierce global competition and concerns over jobs and skills are stoking fears that Europe is losing the race for industrial leadership.

How can the EU safeguard its competitiveness while respecting the values of openness, innovation and free and fair competition on which European technology companies have built their success? How can we unlock the full potential of EU industrial leadership, helping our industrial ecosystems drive innovation across sectors and shape a greener, more liveable and more prosperous future for EU citizens?

These are the questions we will be putting to leading tech sector representatives and policymakers at Orgalim’s ‘Reinventing Europe’s industrial leadership’ conference on 12 November in Brussels. The event will provide a platform to discuss how the EU can build on its industries’ strengths towards 2030 and beyond, as the global competitive landscape is fundamentally redrawn. Joining Orgalim Director General Malte Lohan and Chairman Thilo Brodtmann (CEO, VDMA) will be:

- MEP Reinhard Bütikofer: as a Member of the European Parliament (Germany, Greens/EFA) with long-standing experience in industrial, research and energy policy, Mr Bütikofer will share his thoughts on the future of EU industrial strategy and international trade

- H.E. Ambassador Kazuo Kodama: Japan’s top representative to the EU, H.E. Ambassador Kodama will give insights into how his country is looking beyond the digitalisation of industry to the digital transformation of society with the ‘Society 5.0’ initiative

- Claudia Olsson: CEO of Exponential AB, technology expert and member of the European Commission’s ‘Industry 2030’ High-Level Roundtable, Ms Olsson will discuss her work on how new technologies are impacting Europe’s economy, society and global markets

- Rada Rodriguez: Orgalim Deputy President and CEO of Schneider Electric GmbH Germany and SVP Strategy & Alliances, Ms Rodriguez will highlight the role of technology in creating value for Europe’s economy and citizens in areas from climate change to mobility to healthcare
