On 4 June Orgalim hosted a virtual roundtable on the challenges of globalisation, ecosystems and the EU’s industrial strategy after the COVID-19 crisis. The webinar, attended by close to 150 participants, explored the immediate impact of the crisis on industries and supply chains, and the EU’s approach to industrial policy in this new era.

Orgalim’s Director General Malte Lohan moderated the discussion with Orgalim President Rada Rodriguez, alongside  Kerstin Jorna, Director General – DG GROW; MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho (PT/EPP), Co-chair of the EP Intergroup on Sustainable, Long-term Investments & European Competitive Industry; MEP Martina Dlabajova (CZ/ Renew Europe), Coordinator Committee on Industry, Research and Energy; and Fabian Zuleeg, Chief Executive, European Policy Centre.

The session looked into some of the most prominent areas of the recovery plan impacting industry: from the split of resources between the Green Deal and Europe's digital transformation, to research and development funding, supply chains, as well as the EU's approach to industrial ecosystems and its governance.

Overall, the panel recognised that the recovery plan provides a good starting point, but much work remains needed: there are still many open questions and achieving the objectives set out in the recovery plan will require an open dialogue and close collaboration between policymakers and industry.

Our next roundtable "An ecosystems approach to industrial resilience", part of the "European industrial strategy in focus" series, will drill into the European industry’s future resilience and the role that can be played by an ecosystems approach. It will take place on 10 July and we would be delighted to host you again. Registrations are now open.
