EU Sustainable Energy Week 2019: unlocking synergies between energy, digital and transport

14 June 2019

This year’s EU Sustainable Energy Wee...

This year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) centres on the theme ‘Shaping Europe’s energy future’. To make that future a sustainable one, it will be essential to limit global warming to well below 2°C and ideally to 1.5°C. The EU has a unique opportunity to not only master this challenge but to turn it into a driver of growth, with digitalisation offering great potential to enable a cost-efficient energy and low-carbon transition across sectors.

How can we strengthen the synergies between the digital, energy and transport arenas to maximise these opportunities for the benefit of all Europeans? And how can this drive forward decarbonisation while supporting Europe’s industrial leadership?

These are the questions Orgalim and its partners aim to answer in their EUSEW session ‘Transport, energy and digitalisation: city and industry views’, set to take place on 19 June from 14.00 to 15.30 at Brussels’ Residence Palace. Organised by ERTICO-ITS Europe in collaboration with EUROCITIES, Orgalim and UNIDO, the session will bring together a diverse panel of experts to discuss current technology trends and the role of a coherent EU policy framework – in particular regarding energy and transport policy. Plus, drawing on insights from European cities and industry, speakers will look at how best practices from the EU can support change in industrialising countries.

The provisional agenda for the session is as follows:

14:00 Welcoming words by Jacob Bangsgaard, CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe

14:05 Keynote speech on EU policy topics by MEP Henna Virkkunen

14:15 Presentation of Malte Lohan, Director General of Orgalim

14:25 Presentation of Dorthe Nielsen, Policy Director of EUROCITIES

14:35 Panel discussion:

  • Henna Virkkunen, European Parliament
  • Jean-Jacques Marchais, Orgalim
  • Thomas Meißner, Berlin Agency for Electromobility (eMO)
  • Jacob Bangsgaard, ERTICO
  • Dorthe Nielsen, EUROCITIES
  • Cassandra Pillay, UNIDO

15:20 Conclusions / Q&A

Taking place from 18 to 20 June, EUSEW is the biggest European policy conference dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe. Orgalim has been a strategic partner to the event for a number of years, and 2019 is no exception. Our joint session is part of a content-packed programme alongside plenaries and workshops organised by the European Commission and energy stakeholders tackling a host of sustainable energy issues and policy developments.
