Dear colleagues,
Europe is facing a new reality since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. Orgalim stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and from the start of the invasion we have supported Europe’s leaders in their defence of international law. The unprecedented sanctions imposed on Russia will come with an economic price, also for the industries we represent; but an unchecked deterioration of peace and security would likely be far costlier.
With all eyes set on the war, Orgalim continues the policy work core to Europe’s technology industries. I would like to point to two initiatives particularly relevant in today’s context. As we pass the mid-point of the French presidency, we have issued a new edition of Tech at Heart. This report focuses on the success stories of four French companies shaping the circular economy. In today’s situation of materials scarcity, enhancing circularity is more important than ever. And as the EU’s work on sustainable finance enters a crucial phase, these case studies also show why enabling technologies must be covered by the taxonomy: Europe’s transition to a green economy depends on them. Also this month, Orgalim, along with a wide coalition of European industries, issued a joint statement urging the EU institutions and Member States to continue making EU trade agreements a priority. Particularly in this period of profound geopolitical uncertainty, expanding our international trade relationships is critical.
Spring is finally here, and with Covid regulations loosening up, events are making their comeback. Our General Assembly will take place in Stockholm in 2022 at the kind invitation of our Swedish member association, Teknikföretagen. A highlight of the agenda is the conference on sustainability, competitiveness and innovation, featuring European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager and Swedish Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation, Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Until then, stay safe and take care,
