Orgalime letter to MEPs ahead of the committee vote on the review of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)

9 October 2017

Ahead of the vote in the European Parliament's ITRE Committee on 11 October on the review of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), Orgalime has sent a letter to MEPs outlining our position on Rapporteur Bendt Bendtsen's report. We view a forward-looking and determined EPBD review as a unique opportunity to create a fresh boost to jobs and growth in Europe and to ensure a win-win for all stakeholders - the planet, EU citizens and European industry.

We warmly welcome the good compromises that have been reached by Rapporteur Mr. Bendtsen and the Shadow Rapporteurs, which in our view strive for the right level of ambition in view of the upcoming negotiation with the Council. We therefore urge Members of the Parliament to support this approach with a strong majority.

In particular, we stress the importance of the following measures:

• Prioritising the renovation of the existing building stock and incorporating the innovation that technical building systems will bring into our building stock

• Setting in place determined long-term renovation strategies

• Developing a smartness indicator to assess the technological readiness of buildings
