Joint industry comments on WEEE2 Draft Implementing Regulation
The 2012 Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE2) provides EU Member States with two options for demonstrating compliance with the new minimum collection rate that will apply from 2019 onwards. The first is based on the weight of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) placed on the national market in question; the second on the quantity of waste EEE generated by weight in each Member State. A revised version of the Commission’s 2015 Draft Implementing Regulation proposes a common methodology for calculating each of these targets. This is crucial to ensure clear and harmonized implementation in each Member State. At the same time, it is essential that the methodologies lead to fair targets based on objective, clear and transparent criteria.
With a vote in the Technical Adaptation Committee scheduled for 13 February 2017, Orgalime has published a joint statement with CECED, DIGITALEUROPE and LightingEurope – outlining the positive changes that have been made to the draft, and where we believe there is still scope for improvement.
