Joint CEEMET and Orgalime Position on the Proposal for a Directive on the Protection of Workers
Orgalime and CEEMET (Council of European Employers for the Metal, Engineering and Technology-based Industries) believe that immediate action is needed on the physical agents (Optical Radiation) proposal, which in our opinion runs counter to the better regulation principles proposed by the Commission. We feel that the proposal, which includes amendments tabled by the European Parliament, will only lead to compliance costs and administrative burden for manufacturers and employers that are out of proportion to any policy objectives that might be achieved.
Orgalime and CEEMET wish to avoid further deterioration of the framework conditions under which manufacturers and employers have to work in the EU, so in the absence of necessary modifications and a proposal supported by a proper impact assessment, we recommend that the Commission should consider withdrawing the present proposal.
