Dear all,
As this crazy year rushes to a close, first of all, thank you: to our staff for your incredible hard work, good spirits and resilience during these tough times; and to our members and partners for your valued support and exceptional commitment at a time when the industry has been hard hit. Looking back on the year now, I can say that Orgalim has never been so productive. Our whole network pulled together to respond to an unprecedented crisis that came on top of an already very ambitious EU policy agenda. Not to mention the uncertainty around Brexit. Among many other things, we just ran our last event of the year – on industrial AI – in our very successful roundtable series Industrial Strategy in Focus. Over the course of the year we published 51 position papers, up from 34 in 2019, representing our industries’ position on key policy topics from the circular economy to cybersecurity and trade policy as the Commission accelerated its work on the green and digital transitions.
Looking ahead to 2021, the EU policy agenda facing Europe’s technology manufacturers will be more intense than anything in recent memory. As important as these policy objectives are, they will coincide with our industries continuing to suffer from the blow that this pandemic has dealt, as our latest economic report shows. Still there is much to be optimistic about. The roll-out of a vaccine gives us hope that we can put this health crisis behind us. We have been reminded of the importance of our shared, European values. And, symbolic of that, we now have a historic €1.8 trillion agreement on a new long-term EU budget and recovery instrument.
Much of next year will now be about investing those much-needed funds in Europe’s transformation, in which our industries have such a pivotal role to play. At Orgalim, we look forward to supporting Europe's technology industries in doing what they do so well: providing the innovative solutions that will unlock a greener, healthier, more prosperous Europe for all.
In the meantime, let me wish you a peaceful and relaxing holiday season and all the very best for 2021.
