Q&A: Industrial acceleration, or all an act?

The Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) is a flagship European Commission initiative aimed at strengthening Europe’s industrial base and increasing the share of manufacturing in EU GDP to at least 20% by 2035. It signals political intent to reinforce industrial capacity and build EU strategic autonomy. While an important step, its success will depend on clear design and scope, legal certainty, and effective implementation. Achieving Europe’s industrial ambitions will also require broader reforms addressing structural competitiveness challenges, including energy prices, regulation and investment conditions. Understanding the IAA is essential to recognising how climate and industry goals can be aligned through cost-effective, enabling policies.
