Shaping the next EU Industrial Forum
Industry stakeholders are calling for a stronger, more connected platform to help shape policies as Europe prepares for the next mandate of the EU Industrial Forum (2026–2029).
The Industrial Forum has the potential to be the central meeting point for industry, policymakers, and Member States, where ideas are tested early and decisions are informed by real-world expertise.
The Industrial Forum must be the main structured dialogue platform for industrial policymaking, from the design of the legislation to the implementation.
To make this vision a reality, several key improvements are proposed:
1. A Dynamic and Regular Work Plan
A clear, consistent meeting schedule is essential. The Forum’s early work on the European Competitiveness Fund showed how timely engagement can make a real difference.
2. Early Input on Major Initiatives
Discussions on upcoming initiatives like the Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal should happen well before proposals are finalised, giving stakeholders time to share insights and practical feedback.
3. Strong Institutional Engagement
Active participation from Commissioners and different Commission departments (DGs) would help ensure that industrial policy remains coherent and coordinated, avoiding overlaps or conflicting regulations.
4. A More Inclusive and Connected Forum
Tools such as the Industrial Forum newsletter and greater involvement from Member States have improved transparency and collaboration. Expanding these practices and linking the Forum more closely with other EU dialogue platforms will strengthen its impact.
5. Building on Success
The Task Force on Advanced Manufacturing has proven how effective targeted collaboration can be. New task forces could build on this success, helping to identify strategic industries, innovation gaps, and opportunities for future EU investment.
Together, these steps can turn the Industrial Forum into a true working hub that unites Europe’s industrial community in shaping a stronger, more competitive future.
