Renewed momentum for the EU Mercosur Free Trade Agreement

Friday 27 February: Orgalim would like to show full support for the European Commission’s decision on the EU Mercosur Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The announcement of a provisional application of the FTA marks a decisive step forward after over 25 years of negotiations, and it brings particularly promising prospects for Europe’s technology industry.

The agreement will unlock major economic gains for Europe’s tech sector, such as up to €11 billion in annual exports to Mercosur, improved access to public procurement, and more secure supply chains for critical raw materials.

- Lorenzo Livraghi, Orgalim Senior Advisor on Trade and Industrial Policy

More broadly, the agreement strengthens predictable and rules-based trade, reinforces multilateralism, and opens the door to deeper technological cooperation, investment, and enhanced environmental and labour standards. All essential drivers for a competitive, innovative, and sustainable European textile ecosystem.

After years of delay, today’s step brings renewed momentum. Now is the time to seize this opportunity, ensure rapid and effective implementation, and allow our sector to fully benefit from this long-awaited partnership.
