Orgalim launches new Defence and Security Task Force
Brussels, 25 September 2026: Orgalim has launched a dedicated group to bring expertise from Europe’s technology industries to the growing area of defence policy, as the European Commission focuses on this as a strategic priority.
Orgalim was founded in the years following the Second World War, as a European-level organisation that could represent the engineering and trade associations of several Western European nations.
Today, Orgalim serves as the prominent voice for Europe's technology and manufacturing industries. We maintain there can be no credible defence sector without a strong industrial and technological base.
The group will focus on the critical role of dual-use technologies such as advanced machinery, robotics, sensors, electronics, and cyber-secure systems. These technologies form the backbone of Europe’s defence capabilities and sit at the intersection of industrial competitiveness, innovation, and security.
The inaugural meeting welcomed Micha Comnick, Member of Cabinet to the Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius as its guest speaker, who gave insights to the meaning of defence readiness, the implementation of EU defence programmes, simplification measures, and countering hybrid threats.
The discussion highlighted a common conviction: Europe’s defence readiness must be anchored in a competitive, innovative and resilient industrial base.
From dual-use technologies and advanced manufacturing to supply chain resilience, electrification and digital solutions, our industries are essential enablers of Europe’s security ambitions and for developing future security policies.
By coordinating the sector’s input, Orgalim can advocate for policies that support a robust and competitive industrial foundation - while providing the expertise, innovation and practical solutions needed for European resilience.
The Task Force will be lead by Roland Hans Papesch, Head of Security and Defence Industry Forum at VDMA as Chair. Liene Laimina-Bierbass, Vice President Government Relations at Smiths Detection will serve as Vice-Chair.
