Our Director General Ulrich Adam and Policy Director Daniel Wennick will be speaking on the panel Closing the Innovation Gap: Aligning Europe's RD&I and industrial policies to fast-track market deployment of inventive solutions.

Europe is at a crucial juncture where integrating research, innovation, and industrial policy is essential for enhancing competitiveness and speeding up the market introduction of new products and technologies. This approach aims to bridge the innovation gap, a significant competitiveness challenge highlighted by Mario Draghi.

This session will explore how a closer alignment of these policies under the new mandate period, alongside the upcoming R&I-framework program (FP10) and new industrial policies, can unlock Europe's potential to become as a global leader in high-tech innovation and optimize our investments in RD&I.

The session will elaborate on:

  • The Innovation Gap: Why Europe struggles to translate world-class research into market-ready innovations and how aligning policies can address this issue.
  • European Competitiveness: How stronger links between research and industrial strategies can enhance Europe’s position in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
  • The role of Technology Infrastructures and European Industry: Exploring the pivotal roles of European industry and RTOs in this equation, and identifying what current tools and strategies can be developed to drive collaboration and scale transformative technologies (FP10, governing of IPCEI, upcoming TI-strategy and so on).
