Time to act: Reducing the EU’s regulatory burden on Europe’s technology industries
Europe’s competitiveness, including the competitiveness of its technology industries, is at a critical juncture: with international competition, geopolitical tensions, and the rapid deployment of cutting-edge innovation such as AI sharply on the increase, Europe needs to create a better and more supportive regulatory framework to enable companies to stay ahead of the curve in terms of competitiveness, investment capabilities, and innovation in key technologies.

Unfortunately, the EU’s regulatory agenda of the past five years has been insufficient to provide such relief or structural support: according to the Draghi Report on “The future of European competitiveness”, between 2019 and 2024, the EU produced significantly more regulations than the US with 13,000 new regulations issued in Europe compared to 5,500 in the US.
