Europe's technology industries' dynamism and technology leadership were on full display this week at Hannover Messe and Orgalim was there, hosting a bespoke tour of the show for our European Commission guests that took in several of our members' stands. Orgalim's Director General Malte Lohan and Policy Director Daniel Wennick led the tour, accompanied by senior representatives of Orgalim members ZVEI and VDMA.

A common thread to many of the technologies showcased was their key role in accelerating the energy transition and Europe's net zero future – whether by enabling smart monitoring of wind turbine blades at Phoenix Contact, Digital Product Passports at Pepperl+Fuchs, or industrial software for maximising operational efficiency at Schneider Electric, to give just a few examples.

Manufacturing and energy technologies are central to decarbonising our energy system: enabling a much faster scale up of renewable energy, making our energy systems smarter and more flexible, and massively increasing efficiency.

As Malte Lohan said, reflecting on the key themes at this year's show, "manufacturing and energy technologies are central to decarbonising our energy system: enabling a much faster scale up of renewable energy, making our energy systems smarter and more flexible to deal with renewables, and massively increasing efficiency so that we can do more with less. All are necessary and all were on display in Hannover."

This year, the European Commission's presence at the show was greater than ever, reflecting the policy focus on competitive net zero industry. DG GROW Director General Kerstin Jorna and Deputy Director General Maive Rute were among those participating, while a full programme of events took place at the Commission's own stand and stage. Malte Lohan took part in one of them, a discussion with Mehdi Hocine, Head of Unit for Machinery & Equipment, on the 'EU Strategy on Standardisation - Where do we stand one year later?'

Organised by our members in Germany, VDMA and ZVEI, Hannover Messe is the world's largest industrial trade fair.
