Orgalim signs Bilbao Manifesto for faster European electrification

Representatives from across Europe’s clean electricity technology sector have called on policymakers, regulators and network operators to support European electrification.

The Bilbao Manifesto is first and foremost a call to raise awareness about Europe’s industrial strength in clean electricity technology. Together, we are the people that build and install Europe’s clean electricity system. We are fundamental for achieving Europe’s strategic security as well as our climate, competitiveness, and affordability objectives.

- Diederik Peereboom, Secretary General of T&D Europe, representing European grid technology providers

The signatories are the designers, manufacturers and installers for the full range of the essential technologies that enable the secure and efficient operation of Europe’s clean electricity system. Together they represent over 770,000 companies employing over 11.6 million people who put their collective expertise to work to craft a brighter, electric future.

In the manifesto they ask for a number of actions to ensure Europe's move to clean energy, which has seen electrification rates stall in recent years.

Among the calls, they ask that the strategic importance of Europe’s clean electricity technology sector gets greater recognition - qualifying for support as a vital European interest - as well as the faster deployment of technologies developed and manufactured in Europe. This would help the expansion and upgrade of Europe’s clean electricity grids, which needs to be accelerated.

In addition, they want to see support for the growth of the clean energy technology workforce, that can develop future-ready high-quality jobs or provide upskilling and reskilling.
